Fitness for the Workaholics
1. Stretch : 10 Minutes
Make sure to do some kind of exercise daily. You do not need to go to Gym for this. You can do this at home (or a park, if you can).
This can be simple stretching followed by mild stretching. Start with muscle flexing, hop, jog etc, then move to sit ups, push ups, crunch. If your body permits, increase the speed.
After very basic stretching, I prefer to do 8 rounds of Surya-namanskar at slow speed.
2. Exercise : 10 Minutes
My personal favorite is 16 rounds of Surya-namaskar at 2X speed.
Increase your speed gradually over a period of multiple weeks.
3. Meditate : 20 Minutes
If you are new to meditation, you might find certain kinds of music (Spiritual or Other) helpful in meditation. Focus on the rhythm or lyrics.
4. Intermittent Fasting (IF)
A very well known fact in India since ancient times and now also backed by Modern science – Fasting has healing powers. Intermittent fasting is fasting for 14-16 hours daily. You can only take water or mineral drinks during the fasting period. Complete all your meals within the remaining time. If done properly, it can do wonders for your health.
I find it easier to complete my dinner before 8 PM and have my breakfast after 11 AM (15 Hours fasting).
Intermittent fasting is not for people of all health groups. Consult your medical practitioner before starting.
